Boswell's Tavern
11193 Louisa Road : Gordonsville, VA 22942
Louisa County, Virginia

Land Description
Built circa 1735 Boswell's Tavern is both a comfortable residence & small farm, as well as an important chapter in the history of the founding of the United States of America. Built on part of the expansive Nicholas Meriweather grant by his grandson Nicholas Johnson, the structure was form the outset intended as a tavern. This is an indication of the importance of this location on what was at that time the frontier's edge of the Virginia colony. It is currently operating as a cattle farm. Although under easement with Historic Green Springs, Inc. we have a letter that states that "reasonable commercial activities" may be considered. For example the property might be converted into a Bed&Breakfast or an Inn. While the external appearance cannot be altered without approval, additional structures may be built that are appropriate to single family dwelling such as a garage, guest house, swimming pool & farm buildings. No A/C or heat in 2 smaller bedrooms & bath on 2nd floor and no heat/ac on 3rd floor.
