Carson National Forest is about 44 miles away, and Great Sand Dunes National Park And Preserve is 45 miles away. Baca National Wildlife Refuge is about 50 miles to the north. The Rio Grande National Forest is 70 miles away.

The Rio Grande River is about 9 miles away. There are many hiking trails along this river as it wanders through the valley and the river offers tremendous trout fishing. The 11,000 acre Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge borders the river and is known for the many bird species that live there including the whooping crane. The Rio Grande National Forest is home to a full array of animals including elk, deer, antelope, beaver, bobcats, fox, pronghorn sheep, coyote, bald eagle, and many more. They have also re-introduced moose back into this area. The 2,300 acre San Luis Lakes State Park is also Just a short drive to the north. Smith Reservoir and Mountain Home Reservoir are both only about 20 miles away.

You can visit the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, or The Fort Garland Museum And Cultural Center, or the White Mountain Trading Post Living History Museum. Or you can just relax in one of the nearby hot spring pools.

You will be about an hours drive from several of Colorados top ski resorts and Denver is only about a 4 hour drive away. Whatever you like to do, it is here. Within minutes of your property you will be able to fish, hike, backpack, bike, rock climb, canoe, river raft, boat, four wheel drive, snowmobile, ski, golf, wildlife & bird watch, picnic, etc. Costilla County offers some of the best big game hunting in Colorado. You can even hit the go cart track in Alamosa. Taos is only about an hours drive away, an easy day trip if you want to enjoy the artists colony and restaurants.
