This is a beautiful area near Conchas Lake, between Tucumcari and Las Vegas, New Mexico. It is mostly unspoiled ranchland, scenic and peaceful. Surrounding highlands such as the Variadero Mesa, La Silla Mountain, Allemando, North Mesa, and various buttes give gorgeous views. There are a lot of arroyos, ponds, and Garita Creek in the area. Highway 104 goes through the middle of the region so that even though the area is peaceful and secluded, access is convenient. The lake is a fishing paradise with large mouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, walleye, and crappie. Boating and water skiing are very popular. The lake is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Experienced divers enjoy exploring the underwater cliffs. Near the lake are a 9-hole golf course, camping facilities, and a picnic area. Conchas Lake State Park offers a lot of fun outdoor activities. The North Dock Cafe has an excellent view of the lake.
