Region & Climate Siskiyou County is in the northernmost part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,076. History The Town of Fort Jones is located within the northern part of Scott Valley surrounded by the Klamath Mountains to the west and the Cascade Mountain range to the east. Fort Jones was established in October 1852, when Captain Edward H. Fitzgerald and the 1st Dragoons began construction of a fort located near the current community of Fort Jones. The fort was established to protect settlers in far-northern California and southern Oregon from Rogue River Indian raids.

Siskiyou County is in inland northern California, adjacent to the Oregon border. As the fifth largest county in California by area, Siskiyou County features spectacular natural beauty and scenic cities and towns including Yreka-the County Seat, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, McCloud and Tulelake as well as Butte Valley, Scott Valley, Shasta Valley and the Klamath River Corridor. Greater than 60 of the land within the County is currently managed by agencies of the Federal and State governments. These lands are maintained in various National Forests Parks Wilderness Areas National Grasslands National Wildlife Refuges and State Wildlife Areas. Next to the Appalachian region, Siskiyou County is one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the world. It sites the meeting of several western mountain ranges and the transitional mixing of various habitat types. Geographically, it has considerable vertical variance in elevation, hydrological and soil conditions. Portions of the County are heavily influenced by volcanic forces. Siskiyou County also has several areas that were unaffected by ancient glacial flooding. Siskiyou County is the fifth largest county by area and the population as of 2010 was 44,962 which is roughly a 11,000 population increase since 1970.

Location This property is near the center of Siskiyou County, California, approx. 12-miles from Fort Jones and 29-miles from Yreka. Ashland, Oregon is 67-miles north, Mt. Shasta about 62-miles to the south and Redding 124-Miles to the south.

Directions to Land

From Fort Jones, CA: Head southwest on CA-3 S/Main St toward Scott River Road. Turn right on Scott River Road and travel 3.3-miles to Rattlesnake Creek Road. Turn right on Rattlesnake Creek Road and travel approx. 8.2-miles to the east entrance of the property. NOTE: Rattlesnake Creek Road transitions to Forest Service Road 44N20 and then 44N36. At the east property line, Forest Service Road 44N20 continues west across the property to the west boundary and continues. See maps.
