Calais is one of two cities located in Washington County, Maine. The city borders St. Stevens, New Brunswick, Canada and offers three border crossings. The two counties are separated by the St. Croix River which flows down to the Passamaquoddy Bay and into the Atlantic at the beginning of Fundy Bay. The river is deep and accommodates shipping.
