Land Description

Buffalo Mountain 40 Acres with Small 12X16 Hunting Cabin

We call it "Eagle's Nest", where the eagles fly. Don't miss this one. This 40 acres is up on top of Buffalo Mountain, just west of Talihina, OK. It IS where the eagles fly and so do parasailors and hang gliders from all over the country. The jump club has a launch site about a half mile from this great little recreational and hunting property. The property itself is approximately 1/4 mile north of Buffalo Mountain Rd on a legal easement trail (two track) that about any vehicle with a little ground clearance can navigate with ease. I would not try it in your Miata but about any SUV can make it just fine.

The 12x16 cabin is framed up and dryed in. Not finished on the inside as one can see from the pictures, but the owners have done a nice job and guess what? Mom wanted an a/c so Dad installed an a/c for her comfort. Of course, this wonderful little paradise is OFF Grid and they even built a little generator house to divert the sound of the portable generator from the house. With a micro quiet generator you can scarcely hear it running. It is Byog, bring your own generator since the generator does not stay. But the good news is that Mom's a/c installed in the wall does stay.

The Eagle's Nest is pretty much all nicely wooded and has some 4-wheeler trails and hiking trails that will lead you down the mountain to the "Devil's Kitchen" where a nice little creek has carved out big boulders and rocks from the mountain. A very scenic site. The locals have called the site Devil's Kitchen for hundreds of years. The property slopes downward as you head north to Devil's Kitchen. The south side closest to Buffalo Mountain Rd is the highest point, at about 1940' above sea level down to about 1580' at the Devil's Creek and his kitchen. The property is 660' wide east to west and one half mile north to south. The slope is pretty steep as you can see on the topo map.

The north quarter gets pretty steep as you near the creek. There is approximately 360' of elevation change north to south in the half mile of property.

As you can tell, I love this very historic property. It's just a great place to get away from it all.

Buffalo Mountain Rd is a good county maintained road that dead ends at Buffalo Mountain Ranch so the only traffic you have going within a 1/4 mile of your place are a few locals and a few absentee landowners and hunters once in awhile. Almost no traffic.

Being in Latimer County, you are in one of the only 4 counties in Oklahoma that have a black bear hunting season. Huge white tail deer bucks abound and you'll definitely have your share of turkey too. The black bear population is good too.

I could write a book on this place and the very historic Buffalo Mountain that has Spanish gold mines on the west end that date back to the 1600S but I'll save all that for your tour of Eagle's Nest and Devil's Kitchen.

At only this place won't last long. Give a call for your personal tour, you'll be glad you did.
