New Brunswick, Canada, is across the bridge to Campobello Island, home of Roosevelt's International Park, picturesque Head Harbor Lighthouse, and Herring Cove Provincial Park. You can also enter New Brunswick through the Calais border crossing from which you can access many Canadian destinations. Machias is the county seat. It is home to the Campus of the University of Maine at Machias, the Down East Community Hospital, and many other amenities. As you drive along the rural roads of Eastern Washington county, you will see many acres of commercial blueberry land. These fields are blue with ripe berries in August and fiery red in the Fall.

There are many artists that also call Lubec home and get their inspiration from the coastal beauty. Lubec hosts an annual international marathon that attracts hundreds of runners to the area each June. The scenic, newly created Cobscook Shores trails and parks are scattered throughout the inland shoreline of Lubec and the surrounding area offering walking, hiking, and water trails for kayaking and canoeing. Eastport is across the bay with ferry service in the summer months from Lubec it is also an artist hub with many exhibits and concerts during the summer months. The Pleasant Point Reservation has a museum, and other cultural events highlighting the Passamaquoddy Tribe's culture and history.
