The Haden Ranch has been in the current owner's family for nearly 90 years. This ranch was once over 5000 acres of cattle ranch land in the local area. Today the ranch is now comprised of 1247.3 total acres of Kansas flinthill ranchland including tillable farmland and a mile of the Caney River. This ranch is a combination of cattle ranching, farming and recreation with great character and diversity in a property. The eastern 600 acres of the ranch is mainly rolling hills of open ranchland. This portion of the ranch is in cattle production running a cow calf operation of 8 acres per unit of cattle. The pastures are all native grasses that consists of Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem, Indian Grass and Switchgrass that are native tall grass prairie forages of the flinthills. This eastern portion is separated by two cross fenced pastures with four stock ponds. There is ample amount of timbered areas on this 600 acres to allow for shade. The condition of the pastures is in good to great condition. Pastures have seen an above average rainfall for 2019 and this has created an abundant amount of grass and forbes. The Kansas Geological Survey has the Haden Ranch located within the borders of the Flinthills Ecoregion Boundary which is part of the last remaining intact Tallgrass prairie in the Great Plains. The natural Tallgrass Prairie is still intact in most of the ecoregion and is used primarily for cattle ranches. Tallgrass Prairie, is characterized by rolling hills composed of Permian shale and limestone. The Flint Hills Ecoregion is designated as a distinct region because it has the most dense coverage of intact native Tallgrass Prairie in North America. The ranch land fades west into another 650 acres that gently rolls into the heavily timbered Caney River Valley. This western 650 acres is made up 250+/- acres of cropland with Class 1 and 2 soils and lies along the western side of the Caney River. This 650 acres is fenced and cross fenced making up of seven pastures. The Caney River flows through this ranch for over a mile offering an excellent source of natural water along with recreational fishing. Along this river there are pockets of deep holes that offer excellent fishing opportunities for the fisherman. Bass, crappie and catfish can all be found in these water pockets. Outside the banks of the river you will find some of the biggest oak hardwoods to be found in Kansas. This area of the ranch is heavily timbered with a park like feel under a massive of heavy timber. Recreational hunting on this ranch is as good as anyone will find in Kansas. The ranch has never been leased to hunters and it has only been lightly hunted over the years by a few relatives. The heavy timbered draws and valleys drift off the surrounding pastures and fall into an oasis of massive hardwood river bottom. This area of the ranch is full of whitetail deer, eastern wild turkey, small game and seasonal waterfowl.Recreational hunting and fishing on this ranch is some of the finest you will find in the state of Kansas. Water This ranch is rich in natural water resources and man made. The Caney River flows through this ranch for one mile offering excellent natural water resource. There are eight total ponds strategically placed on the ranch offering additional water for the wildlife and livestock. The ranch headquarters is supplied by the local rural water district however an additional water source is by way of a ground water well. This well feeds a large container that is 100,000 gallons in capacity that is located on a high elevated area of the ranch. This tank creates its own gravity fed water source that is secondary for the headquarters and also can be used to water livestock. This region on Kansas receives around 35 -40 of annual rainfall per year. Ranch Headquarters The ranch includes the original ranch headquarters established back in the late 1890'S. The headquarters with numerous outbuildings, barns and equipment storage facilities. Some of the structures show the vintage limestone rock with vintage wood framing. The horse barn and the large hay barn are all vintage buildings constructed back in the early 1900'S. The ranch home was originally established in 1890. Over the last 100 years the home has seen numerous renovations and improvements. Today it is a nice livable ranch home that is fully functional for a ranch hand, family home or hunting cabin.
