Seven Mile Point is the best Rock Picking beach in the U.P. for those hunting for Agates - they abound on this beach. Separated from a sandy beach on the North side, by a small point of rough terrain, is a small cove of small red rocks worn smooth as glass. The waves aren't harsh in this area making it a great place to swim, but the water drops off quickly. There also is a Nature Trail to hike lined with blueberry bushes and lots of wetland and bog flowers to photograph - and Merganser Pond which is visited by shorebirds and ducks. The 200-Acre upland portion of Merganser Pond located to the east of Five Mile Point Road is open to bow and crossbow deer hunting. Just off shore, you can join up with the Keweenaw Water Trail which circles the tip of the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, and gives paddlers the opportunity to experience the grandeur of Lake Superior. If you are a Diver be sure to check out the Keweenaw Underwater Preserve which stretches along the Keweenaw Peninsula shore on Lake Superior. Because of extensive mining and settlement activities that took place near Eagle Harbor, Eagle River, and Copper Harbor, shipwrecks and artifacts (boilers, machinery, and broken hulls) dating to the 1800'S are scattered along the coast. Many of the wrecks are in fairly shallow water where they can be reached by beginner to intermediate divers. Just five+/- miles north of the property offered for sale, is the Village of Eagle River. Off its shore is the Sawtooth Reef, where five wreck dives can take place. The 285 foot steel package freighter Tioga, ran aground on Sawtooth Reef in 1919 during a winter storm. This ship's debris including her boilers and engine can be examined in 28 to 35 feet of water. A large field of wreckage with machinery of the Colorado, a 254 foot wood propelled boat that wrecked in 1898, can be found in 25 to 35 feet of water. The Fern, a 65 foot tug, was lost in 1901, while attempting to salvage the Colorado. Her wreckage can be. seen in 20-30 feet of water intermingled with that of the Colorado. The James Pickands, a 233 foot steamer, broke in two in 1894. The boilers and hull bottom are in 20-35 feet of water. In 1910, the 580 foot ore carrier, The W.C. Moreland, lunged over Sawtooth Reef and broke into pieces. Part of the hull is visible at about 35 feet. The Seven Mile Point Subdivision is a Custom Home Community comprised of only 24 Parcels which are located to the east of the Point. The Community has its own deeded recreational trail system, and it also adjoins Copper Country State Forest lands which allow access for fishing, and hunting. From the L'Anse Welcome Sign take US-41 North 35 miles to the Portage Canal Lift Bridge. Cross the Bridge and take M26/US41 North to Ahmeek. Take a left onto Wright Street. Take a right onto Senter Street, then a left onto Daniel Street. In two blocks it becomes 5-Mile Point Road. Continue on 5-Mile Point Road North, approximately 6.7 miles until "Sunset Bay Campground" sign. Turn left on Sunset Bay Beach Road and go.7 miles. Take left at Seven Mile Point Road. Continue.3 miles to property.
