Land Description
Michigan Hunting "40" For Sale! This 40-Acre wooded parcel is located in north-eastern Ontonagon County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - This parcel is adjacent to part of the Copper Country-Mishwabic State Forest on it's eastern border, and has a good seasonal logging road running through the property which can be used to reach thousands more acres of State of Michigan Lands. The Mishwabic State Forest is a top location for bird watching in the State of Michigan. A seasonal creek which is a tributary of the East Branch of the Firesteel River also traverses the parcel. This river lives up to its name when the fiery Steelheads move up its waters in the spring to spawn. The river also supports natural Steelhead reproduction, and fall runs of Salmon, and Brown trout. Just five miles away from this parcel is a favorite Firesteel access point for anglers, and just two+ miles away is a popular launch spot used by Kayakers. This area is rich in history and mineralogy. ust two miles north-east of this parcel is the site of the Indiana Copper Mine. Two mining companies attempted to exploit the volcanic rocks that crop out in the area in search of copper lodes in the 1860's and later in the 1900's. Copper was discovered, but not enough to keep stockholders happy. (See the photos below for a Copper Sample collected at the Indiana Mine). The abandoned Copper Range Railroad Grade is now the Bill Nichols Multi-Use State Trail for Hiking, Mountain Biking, Horseback Riding, and Snowmobiling. If you are seeking a wooded parcel with good road access, and access to the U.P. Great Outdoors check this property out!
