Just a few miles east of the New Mexico border and about 70 miles west of Lubbock lies the quaint town of Bledsoe, Texas. If off the grid living is what you are seeking, then Bledsoe is a perfect fit. When you're looking for more to do, then set your sights on the big cities of Lubbock or Amarillo. You can still get culture a little closer by heading over state lines to Roswell for some extraterrestrial education or to a local vineyard for some wine tasting.
Bledsoe was founded in 1925 by the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway, as a destination from Lubbock with plans to continue the line into New Mexico (which never happened). The town is named for Samuel T. Bledsoe, the railroad's president. As a ranching community, Bledsoe benefited from the railroad and soon became a cattle-shipping center.
While there is no road leading directly to the lot, you can access the property with 4-wheel drive or off road vehicles. There's currently no zoning in Cochran County, so you have no building restrictions and can camp or park your RV on your property for as long as you like. Just be sure to properly and legally dispose of sewage. Bring water in with a holding tank until you build and choose your power options with solar, wind or generator.
