Land Description

Upper Michigan Inland Lake Waterfront Parcel for sale. This 0.934 Acre parcel has 150 Feet frontage on the western shore of Lake Roland, located in the Twin Lakes area of Elm River Township, in west-central Houghton County. An area loved by locals and tourists, there is something for every outdoor enthusiast. This area is surrounded by Copper Country State Forest and private forest lands, and features Lake Roland and Emily Lake. 292-Acre Lake Roland is about 40 Feet Deep. This lake warms up early in the summer, and is one of the warmest inland lakes in the Upper Peninsula, making it ideal for swimming, water sports, and water skiing. Fishermen have the opportunity to catch 16 different species of fish in this lake. It specializes in Crappie and Bluegill. Walleye, Crappie, Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Rainbow Trout and an occasional Tiger Muskie are also caught in this lake, and the Michigan DNR defines it as a Designated Trout Lake - a lake in which trout are the predominant game fish. There is a Township-owned hard-surfaced boat ramp on the east shore of the lake. This lake adjoins Lake Gerald by a channel. Lake Gerald is a 255-Acre 40-Foot Deep lake. This lake also offers a decent number of walleyes, crappies, bluegills and rainbow trout. A few miles away is the 9-hole Wyandotte Golf Course which is very beautiful and challenging for the moderate golfer. Across from the Golf Course is Wyandotte Falls on the Misery River, a 24.2 mile long river that flows into Lake Superior. Angled mossy bedrock slabs separate the upper river, and water cascades into a narrow crevasse and spills out of a narrow gap into small pools of water below the falls. These falls are best seen during the Spring melt, or after good rains. A short 1.5 mile nature trail, featuring two scenic overlooks from which Lake Superior can be seen on a clear day, is close by, and is considered an easy trail. Twin Lakes is in the highest snowfall area in the midwest with an average snowfall of 390 inches. The snowfall in this part of the country is perfect for snowmobiling. It isn't measured in inches, it's measured by feet. The area usually receives around 16-20 feet between December and April. Naturally, snowmobiling is a popular sport in the area. The multi-use Bill Nicholls Rail Trail runs along the old Copper Range Railroad and is used year-round for ATVs, Mountain Bikes, and Snowmobiles. From Toivola to the State Park at Twin Lakes, this approximately 8-mile trail passes several small lakes and traverses scenic woodlands. It also connects to snowmobile and ATV trails leading north to Copper Harbor, and west to the Porcupine Mountains. The trail parallels M-26 for seven miles, allowing easy access for trail riders to nearby businesses - Gas, groceries, dining and lodging are nearby. The property being offered for sale is just down the shore from Twin Lakes State Park, a 175 acre campground which is located on the southwest shore of Lake Roland. Its most popular feature is the sandy, warm beach on Lake Roland that is shallow enough for young children. It is open for day use for travelers and area residents. There is a Beach House, Picnic Tables, and a Playground for the kids. The property offered for sale would be a great base camp for exploring the western Upper Peninsula. There are great hunting opportunities in State and CFA lands less than a mile away. Fort Wilkins and the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park are about an hour+ drive to the North and West. It is conveniently located - Houghton and Hancock are about 25+/- miles to the north, Mass City is about 15 miles to the southwest, and Ontonagon is about 33 miles to the southwest.
