Hadley Lake Forest is a Downeast Maine spruce-fir forest with over a mile of undeveloped frontage on Hadley Lake. Located in the town of East Machias US Route 1, the property is less than 30 miles from Canadian border and just under 8 hours from Boston.
Hadley Lake is a sparsely-developed, 1,700-acre water body with a warm water fishery of perch, bass, and pickerel. Motorboats are allowed on the lake, with a public boat launch available at the southern end. The highlight of the property’s shoreline is a modest, spruce-covered peninsula with gentle terrain and a rare 100’ long sandy beach with a shorefront campsite. Other water features on the property include a mile of Gooch Brook, which bisects the center of the parcel and appears navigable by canoe over much of its length, 5 ponds varying in size from 1 to 3 acres, and several heath wetlands.
The majority of the forest terrain is flat to gently rolling with predominantly well-drained, gravelly soils. The forest supports a mixed wood species composition of maturing softwoods and northern hardwoods. Recent openings created by harvesting will encourage young growth that provides habitat for deer, moose, songbirds and others. An all-season gravel road extends into the property for over two miles, providing access to within 1,000’ of the Hadley Lake shoreline, while additional unimproved road spurs lead into other parts of the property.
