This is the Little Sheep Creek Ranch, over 843 acres of rolling dry land grass and sage, steep draws framed by domed hills, majestic peaks and a verdant valley. The first glimmer of sunlight peaks through the domed mountain peaks and kisses the golden ridgelines before seeping across the vast valley below. The horses breath comes in in clouded snorts in the chill morning air as it make its way up the draw. Dozens of elk tracks surround the spring fed pond, where the herd paused to drink after a night of grazing. Among them are some nice bulls, but one set of tacks is far more impressive than the rest. You gaze up at the stand of trees that funnel into the draw. Somewhere bedded down is that monster 6 X 6 that has lived in your dreams. Maybe today will be the day. Little Sheep Creek traverses across one corner of the property, and a mountain spring forms a small stock pond. Tens of thousands of acres of BLM and Forest Service land border the property on 3 sides and the treed draws that are accessed by the property are a major corridor for large elk herds as well as mule deer while antelope graze the lower fields. Several of the adjoining ranches offer block management so there are hunting opportunities in every direction. The ranch has not allowed hunting in the past so herds of as many as 600 animals have converged on the property during hunting season. It is located in hunting district 300 that provides hunting for both brow timed and antlerless elk on private ground and brow tined elk on public land. It is a trophy area for mule deer and either sex hunting for whitetail deer. The ranch, along with an 80 acre BLM lease, can support approximately 50 pair for 4 months. A neighbor currently leases the ranch for grazing. There is a large 36 X 50 shop building with water from an 18 GPM well. Only 5 minutes from the town of Lima and 45 minutes to Dillon, the area is known for trophy elk and great recreation. Clark Canyon and Lima Reservoirs, the Beaverhead and Red Rock Rivers, Sheep Creek and dozens of mountain lakes and streams provide plenty of great fishing action. There is great hiking and big game.
